THINGS TO AVOID:

  • Smoking
  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine
  • Fried or greasy foods
  • Over-eating
  • Food that is excessively processed
  • Refined foods (sugar), salt and too many spices

INCREASE INTAKE OF:

  • Fruits and vegetables. Microwave or steam vegetables.
  • Breads and cereals. Whole grains such as whole wheat, brown rice, barley, oats and rye.
  • Lean cuts of red meat. Trim excess fat.
  • Fish and poultry.
  • Skim milk or low fat dairy products.
  • Beans and nuts (high in protein).
  • Water.

SUPPLEMENTING YOUR DIET:

Many people need to supplement their diets with vitamins and minerals due to poor dietary intake, or due to particular medical conditions. The following are some conditions, which may require supplementation.

  • Any major trauma or disease.
  • Diets designed for weight loss.
