Chiropractic Care For Kids
I often urge parents to bring in their children, toddlers, and infants for a chiropractic examination, and if needed, chiropractic spinal adjustments. This often takes parents by surprise. 'Why would you adjust my infant? My little baby couldn't possibly have spinal problems.'
The fact of the matter is that newborns, toddlers, and adolescents DO suffer from spinal misalignments, also known as subluxations. The only problem with infants is that they can't tell you when their neck hurts or when their stomach is malfunctioning. They can't tell you when they have a headache. All they can do is cry. Your pediatrician tells you it must be "colic" or some other unexplained phenomenon. In many cases, these unexplained crying fits and irritability are due to subluxations causing pinched nerves and PAIN! When I check infants and toddlers spines, it is quite common to detect areas of muscle spasm and spinal swelling (often causing a "wincing" response and crying by the child). Very gentle chiropractic adjustments restore joint mobility, reduce muscle spasm, and reduce nerve pressure. In most cases, infants fall asleep following an adjustment, as their bodies naturally relax due to the decreased spinal stress.
What can lead to pinched nerves, spinal subluxations, or muscle spasm in infants and toddlers? Let us start with the birthing process. Difficult deliveries, especially those involving the use of forceps or suction may lead to the baby's first spinal subluxation in the neck region. Medications used during pregnancy, and especially during the birthing process, can subluxate your child's spine because of its toxic affects on the baby's internal chemistry. (Remember - any drugs or medications you take in during pregnancy and labor goes directly to the baby's bloodstream in seconds).
As the baby takes its first steps, and as toddlers become more daring, falls are common, inducing stress upon the spine. Common symptoms resulting from spinal subluxation in children are: irritability and incessant crying, infantile colic, growing pains, repeated ear infections, repeated sore throats, digestive disorders, asthma, and many other internal and musculoskeletal disorders.
Have you ever taken your child to a pediatrician and not received good results through traditional medical care? Is your child suffering from a life-threatening disorder? Does your child suffer from attention deficit disorder? Is your child on Ritalin? If so, consider chiropractic care as an alternative to the traditional model of medicine. Our focus is to enhance your child's nervous system and immunological system via gentle hands-on chiropractic spinal adjustments.
I enjoy the presence of infants and children in my office. As a father of two children, I have found a unique gift for making young ones very comfortable in the healing environment of a chiropractic office. You can be assured that your children are in good hands under my care.
