Mark R. Gutekunst, D.C.

Dr. Mark was born and raised a Long Island, N.Y. native. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science(B.S.) degree from New York Institute of Technology in their Pre-Chiropractic Program. He was then accepted into New York Chiropractic College and graduated with his Doctorate in Chiropractic (D.C.) in 1992.

Dr. Mark Gutekunst, D.C. - Cedar Chiropractic Center - Chesapeake, Va.Dr. Mark began treating patients in New York at Suffolk Chiropractic Center until he left in May 1993 to move with his wife Debra to the Tidewater Virginia area. Once he settled in Chesapeake, he began working with the Slone Chiropractic Clinic in the Ghent area of Norfolk.

Dr. Mark spent the next two years treating patients and learning how to operate a successful chiropractic office. He established and opened Cedar Chiropractic Center in May 1995. He has been treating the families of Chesapeake and the surrounding areas since and has worked hard to develop a family oriented atmosphere.

Dr. Mark believes in extensive continuing education. He completed a year long certification course in the management and treatment of injuries as a result of motor vehicle accidents. This includes the study of actual crash tests with human subjects. He is actively participating in ongoing post graduate education at various times throughout the year in order to stay current with modern techniques and diagnostic procedures, which enables he and his staff to provide his patients with the most comprehensive and effective health care possible.

Dr. Mark is currently an active member of the American Chiropractic Association, a primary national organization, as well as the Virginia Chiropractic Association, our state organization.

Dr. Mark is married and has two children. His wife, Debra, has been by his side since his days in school. They have actually known each other since high school. His children, Angelina (Angel) is the oldest and definitely a daddy's girl. Aydan is 3 years younger than is older sister and active in ways boys usually are.

Dr. Mark has diverse interests outside of chiropractic. He is a licensed private pilot with both a glider rating and a power rating. He also enjoys scuba diving, sailing, and camping with his family. Dr. Mark also enjoys pistol shooting and has acheived his "Distinguished Expert" rating for handguns through the NRA. A very difficult task which takes many hours of precision shooting to acheive. He also regularly competes in IDPA, International Defense Pistol Association, matches.

Dr. Mark has a philosophy by which he operates the practice, "I treat patients the way I expect to be treated when I go to a doctors office."
